Some pictures that I dug up from the Spin In Public
from September 2012.
Please for give me and my camera. There are dates that come up as January every time I use the camera.
Until I figure all of this out, we just have to work with things as they fall from the sky;)

World Wide Spin In Public

Worldwide Spin in Public Day was started
by a bunch of like-minded spinners to celebrate an art that they all love - the
art of spinning fibers into yarn. We have organized
spinning in public events on the third weekend of September for 3 years. This
educates the public about our love of spinning, opens minds and hearts to what
we love and allows us to meet new people, get together, and just have a really
fun day!

2009 was the first year for Worldwide Spin In Public.
LEFA began SIP in 2010.
(WWSIP) and we hope to continue to promote many more.

LEFA beginnings and changes

LEFA, is the acronym for Loose Ends Fiber Addicts. Teri came up with the idea of using the acronym. We had thought of having a fiber group get together, once a month in Grafton, West Virginia. Teri had a class on weaving and found 2 more like minded ladies, that said that they would like to have a get together too. Penny and Fran were the first to enter into the picture after Teri and me, aka Susan. No meeting format, no dues, no president, just a get together.
We met at the Arts Council, and then moved to the Coffee House, and now, we meet at the Blueville United Methodist Church, where a couple of LEFA members go to church. Each meeting is an informal get together, to share a project that we are working on, fiber that we want to work with, not to mention how to prepare the fiber. Penny had ideas to make the group have a little structure, but not too much;) So I crowned her as "The Activities Director". She has come up with some fun times for the group. Some of us had been to the Waynesburg Fiber Festival, in May, which is the third Saturday of the month, which is our meeting day. Perfect timing! July is a good time to have Christmas, since the weather is pretty bad by December and many of us cannot make it to the meeting. September, on the 3rd Saturday of the month, is when the World Wide Spin in Public takes place. I asked if anyone knew abvout it or would like to participate. It is a great time to get out the spinning wheel, dust it off, oil it, clean it and get together with 6 or more spinners, to show the rest of the world that it is a talent that is still alive, and ready to be passed on to anyone interested.
We even got a monthly newsletter, written, edited and full of photos from Penny. Since Penny is thinking ahead for her retirement, and has started a framing business, I am going to try to put out an electronic newsletter, in this blog format. If you have any ideas, pictures or stories, just add them here. This has been a great way to share the spinning, weaving, knitting, crocheting, and quilting, with other fiber minded people. Come visit us between 10 am to 3 pm, every third Saturday of the month, unless it is a snow day! Visit us sometime, you may find something that you like! sh
